As part of one of its numerous Mandela Day initiatives, staff from Konica Minolta South Africa’s head office recently paid a return visit to Coronation Training Centre for an update on how the school was faring with the 40 fruit and indigenous trees donated by the company's Johannesburg branch earlier in the year. Konica Minolta South Africa is a division of Bidvest Office (Pty) Ltd.
Coronation Training Centre is a school based in Newlands, Johannesburg, that caters for learners with special educational needs, equipping both intellectually and physically impaired children with the skills needed for them to reach their fullest potential and take their rightful place within society. Its current 170 students, drawn from a 40 kilometre radius and of which 90% come from low-income families, receive training in practical skills such as basic hairdressing and beauty therapy, woodwork, upholstery and permaculture.
The Konica Minolta South Africa team arrived with an array of stationery, school bags, books and other goodies from sister company, Bidvest Waltons, for the children. Both staff and learners were overwhelmed by the generous donation.
"It was wonderful to receive such a warm welcome from the Coronation staff and pupils alike, and to see that the trees were being so well cared for by the children. We hope to keep making a difference at this school as it faces so many challenges and yet continues to do such fantastic work with its learners," says Ritchi Smith, marketing coordinator at Konica Minolta South Africa.
