JOHANNESBURG - March, 10 2016 - Konica Minolta South Africa, a division of Bidvest Office (Pty) Ltd, is planning to not only help to enrich the lives of the Eastern Cape community in April this year, but also to pay homage to the province’s most beloved son, Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela.
In a corporate social investment (CSI) initiative that will literally be “ground-breaking” for the region, Konica Minolta South Africa’s Eastern Cape branch manager, Gary Eves, will lead a team made up of local and head office staff, media and one of the company’s CSI partners, Food & Trees for Africa, in a three-day trip to plant 95 fruit and indigenous trees across the region.
“From Alice and Fort Beaufort to Qunu and Mvezo, the aim of the project is to follow in Madiba’s footsteps across the province that was not only his birthplace but also his final resting place, providing fruit and shade to local community members and helping to transform these areas into healthier, more sustainable environments,” explains Eves. “The number of trees to be planted is obviously significant as it represents one for each of the year’s of this remarkable man’s life.
“We are also thrilled to announce that the planting team will be joined on its journey by the former president’s grandson and current chief of the Mvezo Traditional Council, Mandla Mandela.”
The project, which forms a part of Konica Minolta South Africa’s nationwide planting of 1,861 trees across South Africa this year, will kick off in Alice and Fort Beaufort on the 4th of April.
Through Food & Trees for Africa, Konica Minolta South Africa has bedded down 27,641 trees since 2008, playing its role in protecting the earth from further climate change.
