Combining Innovation with Imagination for a Brighter Tomorrow

| 1 September 2018

In an age of accelerating innovation and technological advancements, it is extremely important that the youth of today contribute to this ever-changing environment and find ways to express themselves and explore their own ability to create. With this in mind, as well as its ‘Giving Shape to Ideas’ philosophy, Konica Minolta South Africa has launched its first art competition called “Art by SA’s No. 1*”. The Konica Minolta Art competition is designed to uncover young South African talent and give them an opportunity to show their creativity.

Over 1,000 primary schools, high schools, special-needs schools as well as tertiary institutions, have already signed up to participate in the competition.  The competition is still open and all artwork entries must be submitted to Konica Minolta by Friday, 14th September 2018.

“As a truly innovative and socially responsible company, Konica Minolta is excited to identify and nurture the talent of the youth through this national competition,” says Alten Hulme, Chief Sales and Marketing Officer, Konica Minolta South Africa.

Students can choose from a number of different themes and mediums to create their masterpieces. The top three children from each category stand to win a share of R60,000 and a R20,000 bursary for their school, college or institution.

The top three finalists in each of the four categories will be announced in the first week of January 2019. These finalists, together with a parent or guardian, will be invited to a weekend away in Johannesburg from 1 - 3 February 2019. An impromptu art competition will take place on the Saturday to determine the winner in each category. The winners will be announced that evening at a gala dinner.

“We eagerly await to see a variety of entries and hope to unlock some future artists and innovators.  It is important that this competition ignites a celebration of art and creativity, and most of all, sees students  have fun,” concludes Hulme.
