Konica Minolta encourages a love of the environment among Bethlehem’s youth

In association with highly regarded NPO, Food & Trees for Africa (FTFA), and as part of a decade long partnership with Konica Minolta South Africa, Bethlehem Konica Minolta, an authorised dealer of Konica Minolta South Africa, donated 10 shade-giving and indigenous trees to local school, Jordania Primary.

"As a family-owned business, we really care about the sense of community in Bethlehem and our local environment, this initiative was an incredible opportunity to not only donate and plant trees at the school, but also inspire and educate the next generation regarding environmental care. We wanted to motivate the learners to care for their environment by entrusting them to take care of the trees,” said Paul Olivier Jnr, dealer principal of Bethlehem Konica Minolta. The second-generation family-run dealership also recently received its 25-year Konica Minolta Dealer Long Service Award from the company.
 
The donation and planting of the trees form part of a larger donation of 920 trees in total and the balance of the trees will be planted in and around Bethlehem in the Free State. These trees are destined to be a real ecological breath of fresh air for the town and its surrounding area as the leafy trees will offset a whopping 339.48 tonnes of CO²e during their lifetime.
 
“We want to thank Bethlehem Konica Minolta and Food & Trees for Africa for this wonderful donation and the opportunity for our learners to learn more about the benefits they will be receiving from these shade trees. What a great way to end off this year!” said Dr André Smith, principal at Jordania Primary. 
 
Over the course of the last 12 years, Konica Minolta South Africa has planted in excess of 52,000 trees, providing trees for 1,041 schools, 56 community centres and 11,639 homes across the country, amounting to a total of CO²e offset of 19,305.5 tonnes.
