Konica Minolta instils an appreciation for the importance of the environment in Lydenburg’s youth

Konica Minolta South Africa’s Nelspruit branch has donated 30 much-needed shade trees to Lydenburg’s Marambane Primary School this November. This donation and tree planting took place in association with the highly regarded NPO, Food & Trees for Africa (FTFA), and as part of a decade long greening partnership. The trees will transform the shared spaces these learners spend time in, providing shade and clean air, regenerating the environment, increasing biodiversity, and also ensuring a more pleasant environment for all


Konica Minolta South Africa’s Nelspruit branch has donated 30 much-needed shade trees to Lydenburg’s Marambane Primary School this November. This donation and tree planting took place in association with the highly regarded NPO, Food & Trees for Africa (FTFA), and as part of a decade long greening partnership. The trees will transform the shared spaces these learners spend time in, providing shade and clean air, regenerating the environment, increasing biodiversity, and also ensuring a more pleasant environment for all.
 
Over the course of the last 12 years, Konica Minolta SA has planted in excess of 53,000 trees, providing trees for 1,067 schools, 56 community centres and 11,639 homes across the country, which amounts to a total of 19,645.02 tonnes of CO2e.
 
"We take our environment seriously and are so honoured when we can donate and plant trees at schools in our regions. During our event, the team from Food & Trees for Africa explained to the children how they should take care of the trees. We know that Marambane Primary will be significantly impacted by the many positive benefits that these trees will provide future generations of learners,” said Gerhard van Tonder, branch manager of Konica Minolta SA, Nelspruit.
 
The donation and planting of the trees form part of a larger donation of 920 trees, as a further 890 trees will be planted in and around the Mashishing/Nelspruit area within Mpumalanga. These trees are destined to be a real ecological breath of fresh air for the town and its surrounding areas, as the trees will offset a whopping 339.48 tonnes of CO2e during their lifetime.
 
“We are so excited about the trees that have been donated to our school and that we have been entrusted with this great responsibility, to not only nurture the trees but educate our learners about the vast benefits of trees in our environment,” explained Mr Sibusiso Mdonsela, principal at Marambane Primary.
