There are thousands of abandoned newborns in South Africa every year, many of whom are lifeless or living in horrific circumstances. Coupled with that is the growing issue of elderly abuse. Elderly people often become forgotten in South Africa and face a complex web of issues like abandonment, poverty, gender-based violence, and economic disenfranchisement.
There is no doubt that these stark facts highlight the critical work of TLC Children's Home, Door of Hope, and Manger Care Centre (MCC), three charity organisations committed to empowering vulnerable elderly people and children in South Africa.
In honour of Nelson Mandela Month, this July, print and imagery innovation company Konica Minolta South Africa (KMSA), has recognised the need for robust intervention by donating R6700,00 to the previously mentioned charities, seeking to make a difference in the lives of these communities.
The donation will be used to purchase essential items, such as food, clothing, school supplies and medical supplies. KMSA also hopes that the donation will inspire other businesses to follow suit and donate towards the same cause.
Both Pippa Jarvis, Managing Director at TLC Children's Home, and Kathy Groome, Donor Engagement Manager at Door of Hope, expressed their heartfelt appreciation for KMSA's contribution, noting that it will help provide much-needed support for some of their more immediate needs, especially since it is still winter.
Assuring that MCC will benefit substantially from the donation, XX XX, XX at Manger Care Centre (MCC), said: "Our hearts are filled with gratitude for the support of KMSA. This donation will make a tangible difference in the lives of the people we serve."
Further, the three charities thanked KMSA for recognising the importance of their community work.
Marc Pillay, CEO at Konica Minolta South Africa, explains that everyone should play a role in bringing about change. “Our commitment to supporting charities that are working to make a difference is a reflection of our belief that everyone has a role to play in enriching the lives of the less fortunate.”
In addition, Pillay stressed the importance of creating a culture of generosity and care that encourages the wider community as well as businesses to lend a helping hand.
